What is niacinamide?

Niacinamide is the quiet workhorse of modern skincare. It regulates oil production, supports the barrier, and fades dark spots over time. Most formulas use 4–10% concentrations, with 5% being the sweet spot for sensitive skin.

Key benefits

  • Visibly minimizes the appearance of enlarged pores
  • Regulates sebum for balanced, less shiny skin
  • Fades post-acne marks and uneven tone
  • Calms redness and soothes reactive skin
  • Strengthens the skin barrier

Who should use it?

All skin types — especially oily, combination, acne-prone, and sensitive skin. One of the few actives safe to use during pregnancy.

How to use niacinamide

  1. Apply morning and/or evening after cleansing and toning.
  2. 2–3 drops of a 5–10% serum is plenty for the full face.
  3. Layer before heavier creams and oils.
  4. Always follow with SPF during the day.

Pairs well with

  • Hyaluronic acid
  • Retinol
  • Salicylic acid
  • Peptides

Use with caution

  • High-dose vitamin C (may cause temporary flushing in rare cases)

Frequently asked questions

Can I use niacinamide with vitamin C?

Yes. Modern formulas make this pairing common, though very sensitive skin may prefer to alternate vitamin C in the morning and niacinamide at night.

What percentage of niacinamide should I use?

4–5% is ideal for sensitive skin or first-time users. 10% gives maximum pore and oil benefits but can cause flushing in some people. Going higher offers no proven extra benefit.

How long before I see results from niacinamide?

Oil control and hydration improvements show within 2 weeks. Pore appearance and dark spot fading take 8–12 weeks of consistent use.
