Understanding acne
Acne is very common and can appear during adolescence or adulthood. Consistent, well-formulated skincare can noticeably improve many mild to moderate cases within 8–12 weeks, while persistent, painful, or scarring acne should be discussed with a dermatologist.

- Build-up of dead skin cells (hyperkeratinization)

A routine framework that works
Gentle cleanse
Use a low-pH or mild surfactant cleanser twice daily. Over-cleansing strips the barrier and worsens breakouts.
Targeted active (PM)
Apply salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or a retinoid on alternating nights. Start slowly — every other night.
Calming serum
A 5% niacinamide serum helps regulate oil and reduce redness.
Oil-free moisturizer
Hydration is essential — dehydrated skin produces more oil. Look for gel or fluid textures with ceramides.
Daily SPF
Non-comedogenic SPF 30+ every morning. UV darkens post-acne marks and most acne treatments are photosensitizing.

Why do I still get acne as an adult?
Adult acne is primarily hormonal and stress-driven. Fluctuations in androgens around the menstrual cycle, perimenopause, or PCOS are common culprits. A dermatologist can rule out underlying causes.
Does diet affect acne?
Some studies link high-glycemic foods and skim dairy with increased breakouts in certain people. Diet triggers are individual, so it is more useful to track your own patterns than to cut out whole food groups without a reason.
Is it safe to pop a pimple?
No. Popping pushes bacteria deeper, increases inflammation, and is the leading cause of post-acne marks and scars. Spot-treat with salicylic acid or a hydrocolloid patch instead.
How long until I see improvement?
Most acne routines need 8–12 weeks for visible improvement. Skin often gets slightly worse in the first 2–3 weeks (the 'purge') before it gets better.
